Gymnasium, Erlangen

Award: 2nd prize competition

Urban design concept and architecture The Center for Applied Sports Science and Technology and the Quadruple Gymnasium are a quiet, compact building in the center of the entire facility and are thus very well accessible to the public as well as internally by the athletes and scientists. The monolithic building "radiates" evenly on all sides. Accents are set through openings in the building: for example, the arena, the bouldering hall and the foyer can be read from outside through generous windows and thus provide orientation. Already by the 1st BA with the sports hall this architectural concept is established. The sports hall combines with the later to be built institutes both architecturally and structurally and rounds off the structure thus. Due to the close connection of the construction sections a high functionality and efficiency is achieved.
