Northern tip of the Mittelmole, Warnemünde

Urban development concept for the northern tip of the Mittelmole in Warnemünde. The Mittelmole is the traditional entrance for Warnemünde and the Hanseatic City of Rostock at the mouth of the Warnow into the Baltic Sea. The area is mainly characterised by the cruise ship terminal with its quays and berths, the ferry pier to Hohe Düne, the sailing harbour, Warnemünde railway station, wasteland, car parks and a green area on Alter Strom. Today, functional and design deficits impair the Mittelmole as the entrance area to the seaside resort and the Hanseatic city of Rostock. At the same time, free areas on the Mittelmole formerly used for railway ferry traffic represent valuable potential for the Warnemünde district. The Mittelmole is to be developed into an attractive, representative and functionally adequate focal point for the seaside resort of Warnemünde.
